Happy Air Max Day! 3.26.87 till infinity.
One thing I truly enjoy about sneakers and the culture is the stories that people have. This one is mine. I don’t call myself a collector because as you can see, I wear my sneakers till they’re dead and done; Enthusiast is a much more proper word. Today is special to the culture because it marks the 27th birthday of Air Max technology. Today is special to me because my first pair of sneakers were these. A pair of Nike Air Max 90s. This shoe put me on to the culture. This sneaker led the way into what I now consider to be part of my lifestyle. I got my first job at 17 right out of high school. That summer I worked and worked, and with my first check I bought these. The first anything that I bought with my own money. It’s a gift to myself I cherish dearly. I never imagined it would develop into the passion it is now. Even though they are beat. Mesh is dirty, leather is dried out and discolored and cracked. The midsoles are cracked and chipping paint. The air unit is fogging and the eyelets are yellowing. The outsoles are quite slick and insoles are worn out. Despite all that, I won’t throw them out. Maybe I’m a rat pack, but I plan on keeping these forever. My first loves. Happy Air Max day, all!
